Arizona Community Radio Network is Ending its Partnership with Border Radio
What’s happening?
After 12 years, the Arizona Community Radio Network has given KOFA/Border Radio notice to end our partnership on March 31, 2021.
What does that mean?
Effective March 31, 2021, KOFA/Border Radio programming, such as The Bridge and Crossing Borders, will no longer air on the Arizona Community Radio Network’s stations.
Since 2009, KOFA/Border Radio and KAWC have provided programming for 89.5 FM Williams, 90.1 FM Prescott, 90.7 FM Kingman, and translator 91.3 FM Flagstaff on weekdays and portions of weekends.
Can I still listen to Border Radio if I live in the Prescott area, Kingman, Flagstaff, or Williams?
Absolutely! While we will not be broadcasting on terrestrial radio stations in your area, we are still available online at borderradioaz.org or on the KAWC/KOFA app (available on Google Play and the App Store) for your smart phone. You can also ask your smart device to play KOFA. Just be sure to ar-tic-u-late the letters K-O-F-A, or Alexa, Google, or Siri might not get it right!
What is happening to the programs in Yuma?
KOFA/Border Radio’s service in Yuma remains unchanged. We will continue to broadcast at 94.7 FM and 1320 AM in Yuma.
I’m a sustaining member. Can I discontinue my support?
Yes, if you would prefer to cancel your sustaining donation, please email alice.ferris@kawc.org to request this.
Of course, if you would like to listen to us online or on the app, we hope that you’ll continue your support as well!
Why is this happening?
The owner of the Arizona Community Radio Network has been trying to sell the stations for several years. He has received an offer from a broadcasting group in Phoenix to acquire the network. The deal is set to close on March 31, 2021.
How did your relationship work?
KOFA/Border Radio and the Arizona Community Radio Network were in a Leased Management Agreement (LMA). This allowed the owner of the Arizona Community Radio Network to carry programming from KOFA/Border Radio at no charge, while it expanded KOFA/Border Radio’s coverage area also at no charge. Donations to KOFA/Border Radio were retained by Border Radio to develop programs like The Bridge and Crossing Borders, while underwriting revenue from Prescott, Kingman, Williams, and Flagstaff businesses were retained by the Arizona Community Radio Network.
